Gunns Camp, Okavango Delta
overlooking the legendary Chiefs Island and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Gunn's Camp is one of the last few remaining luxury, vintage safari camps. Set under leafy palms and African Ebony to blend naturally with its unique surroundings, Gunn's Camp achieves a fine balance of comfort without isolating guests from the sights and sounds of the wilderness.
On arrival at the private airstrip on Ntswi Island, deep in the delta, you will be met by welcoming hosts and shown to Gunn's Camp.
The Okavango Delta
The Okavango is a vast river that never meets the sea. Instead, its clear waters spread across the Kalahari Desert, forming Africa's largest wetland. The Delta is an oasis amidst the vast plains and pans of the desert that covers most of Southern Africa. Its waterways are a collection of meandering channels, creating a haven for Africa's most notable wildlife.
the flagship accommodation offered at Gunn's Camp consists of 6 fully furnished, deluxe Meru tents with en-suite bathrooms featuring standalone baths and outside private showers. Set on raised platforms overlooking the delta plains Gunn's Camp is ideal for honeymooners or guests looking for a more intimate and personalized safari experience.
All 6 tents are discretely set within the densely treed island ensuring privacy and tranquillity. Each has been traditionally furnished with an eclectic mixture of solid wood and African furniture and offers a lounge area as well as private veranda.
At Gunn’s Camp, set along the papyrus-clad banks of the Okavango Delta, one becomes part of the bustling river life. Explore the wilderness with our game drives, guided bush walks, or sit back and absorb the scenery from a traditional 'mokoro' canoe. Another great way to explore the crystal clear channels of the Boro River is by motor-boat. Watch the sun set whilst drifting along a lagoon and sipping sundowners. For the adventurous, we also offer a rustic island camping experience. Game drives will be available only when water levels are low. There will be no game drives when water levels are high as areas of the concession become inaccessible. Mokoros, boat cruises & fishing are also water level dependent.
Motor-Boat Sunset Cruises
A great way to explore the crystal clear channels of the Boro River. Motor-boat cruises are organised in time to toast the unprecedented African sunsets while drifting on a lagoon in the middle of the Okavango Delta. Watch as the mutating colours are reflected in the smooth waters, disturbed only by dipping swallows or curious hippos. (Gunn's Main Camp only, unless by prior arrangement and subject to delta water levels)
The accommodation area is connected to the main camp via raised wooden walkway crossing the wetlands and magically lit by a series of fairylike lanterns. Guests have access to the elevated bar, lounge and dining room, campfire boma and swimming pool.
The top deck boasts a large bar and with magnificent views overlooking Chief’s Island. The dining deck is on two separate levels, and the swimming pool is available for guests to escape the hot African sun.
